Why Horizon English School?
Founded in 1989, Horizon English School is a non-selective, private primary school in the heart of Jumeirah. One of the oldest schools in Dubai, we offer British curriculum education to children aged between 3-11 years. Although we now have almost 1,200 children enrolled at Horizon, our commitment to children and our ethos of child development through engaging, innovative learning, has remained the same.
At the start of 2021, we became part of the Cognita global family of schools, a British education group with global reach. We were also voted ‘Happiest School in the UAE’ in 2021 in the Top School Awards by schoolscompared.com – something that we are very proud of as it reflects the happy environment here in the school.
Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum
Our FS1 and FS2 year groups each benefit from their own lively and well resourced central areas, where they are encouraged to learn through play during their daily free-flow time. The children also have access to a large playground and a specially designed shaded courtyard garden. Each classroom has its own dedicated outside area to encourage our children to spend as much time as possible learning outside (weather permitting). In addition to their Early Years Class Teacher, each class has its own teaching assistant, as well as weekly sessions with specialist teachers:
- Arabic
- Music
- PE (Physical Education), including Swimming
- Library lesson
Teaching and Learning
We strive to nurture independent learners and critical thinkers, with the skills to form lasting relationships with others and the ability to manage themselves in any situation. While academic excellence is at the core of our teaching programme (Horizon English School results rank us in the top 0.5% of schools in the UK and we were recently recognized as being one of the top 25 schools in the UAE), we are not an exams factory and our emphasis is on the well-rounded child, with the strength and self-belief to make mistakes and then to learn from them. Music, sport, art and design, performance, all have an integral part to play in our curriculum and we strongly believe that every child has something to offer.
